Harvel Loyd Stokes, 81, died of natural causes at 1 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8th, in Silverbrook Manor, Niles. He was born on August 15, 1928, in McCroy, Ark., to David and Lorrena Stokes. He was preceded in death by four brothers and four grandchildren. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran, and owner of Phillips 66, South Bend, IN. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him. On April 1, 1969, in South Bend, he married Betty Stokes, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Robert Stokes of South Bend; stepsons, Harry Brooks of East Jordan, MI, Delbert Brooks and Fred Brooks, both of Plymouth; a daughter, Lana May of Rochester, IN; stepdaughter, Rosemary Jackson of Niles; brother, Harold Stokes of Niles; and sisters, Brenda Skiles of Cape Coral, FL, and Ruth Ann Baugher of Walkerton; 18 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, is handling arrangements.
