Albert Vincent Heckathorn, 92, of Niles, died Wednesday afternoon in Riveridge Manor, Niles. He was born in Dayton, Michigan, the son of Frank and Edna (Redding) Heckathorn. He and Millicent LaVern Bates were married in South Bend, IN on February 16, 1940. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Patricia (Donald) Irwin of Niles and four grandchildren, Wanda (Demetrios) Peros of Fairbanks, AK; Charlotte (Steven) Schroeder of Rowlette, TX; Chad Michael Heckathorn of Niles; and Jason Eric Heckathorn of South Bend, IN. Albert was preceded in death by a son, Steven Michael Heckathorn; a sister, Thelma Belle Rose; and a brother, Russell Dean Heckathorn. Albert retired from Clark Equipment Co. after 40 years of employment. Family, gardening, the CUBS, NASCAR (Bill Elliott), great neighbors, friends at Bertrand Bible Church and eating at Bell Plaza gave him many years of enjoyment. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles. Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, is handling arrangements for the family.
