Burlin Michael Hankila, 67, of Buchanan, MI, entered into rest of natural causes in his home with his wife by his side on Monday, March 8, 2010. He was born on July 13, 1942, in Niles, MI, to the late Mike and Wilma (Hess) Hankila. He was a U.S. Army veteran, Free and Accepted Mason Lodge #68, a member of the Moose Lodge and Buchanan American Legion Post 51 and was also an avid golfer. He worked in materials management and was a lifetime area resident. On Feb. 24, 1962, in Buchanan, he married the former Georgia Kay Sarver. She survives along with a son, Michael (Trish) Hankila of Middlebury, IN; daughters, Cara (Henry) Wykowski of Ross, CA, and Julie (Paul) Coskie of St. Joseph, MI; grandchildren, Eric and Daniel Wykowski, Samantha, McKenna and Olivia Coskie, Courtney Spencer, Lidnsay Pickart, L. Bradley Huebner, Madison and Austin Abrams; great-grandchildren, Tatum and William Spencer, and Hailey Huebner; and a sister, Marie Hankila of Belleville, MI. The family wishes to express special thanks to Andrea & Don Myers, Kimberly Butcher, Venessa Burns, James Busby, and nurses Amanda & Toni of Lakeland Hospice. A celebration of life service will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010, in Buchanan American Legion Post 51. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeland Hospice, St. Joseph, MI. Hoven Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
