John Melbern Vandegrift, 70, of 210 N. Cleveland Avenue, Galien, Michigan, passed away of natural causes at 12:18 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, in Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles, Michigan. He was born on August 31, 1939, in Rochester, Indiana, and was a lifetime resident of Galien. John was a factory worker and a U.S. Army veteran. On September 24, 1977, in Galien, MI, John married Marcia (Kuntz) Vandegrift, who survives in Galien, MI. Also surviving are sons, John Vandegrift of North Carolina, Thomas Vandegrift of Galien, MI, and Don Vandegrift of South Bend, IN; daughters, Cathy Roberts of Columbus Grove, OH, Christine Beckel of Kalamazoo, MI, and Sharon McGuin of Huntington, IN; sisters, Carol Ramsey of South Bend, IN, and Ann Nichols of Odessa, TX. One granddaughter, Brandie Longfellow, preceded him in death. No services will be held. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, MI, is assisting the family with arrangements.
