Robert E. Payne, 82, of Benton Harbor died Friday, April 10, 2010, at his home. A funeral service will be held at noon, Wednesday, April 21, at Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, with the Rev. Sean Kidd of Buchanan Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in North Shore Memory Gardens, Hagar Shores. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Berrien County Humane Society. Robert was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Benton Harbor to Martin and Eartle Payne, who both precede him. He was a lifetime area resident. On Sept. 19, 1948, he married Delores (Byers) Payne in Benton Harbor. Robert retired from Auto Specialties. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and loved fishing and hunting. Survivors include his wife, Delores of Benton Harbor; son, Robert Payne of Benton Harbor; daughters - Linda Wagner of Sodus, Dianne Bower of Benton Harbor, Connie Rule of Niles and Carol Clupper of Niles; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Norman Payne of Stevensville.
