Carlyle W. Howard, 73, of Benton Harbor died at 8:10 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010, at New Orchard Grove Extended Care Centre, Benton Harbor, of natural causes. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, with Johnny Groda, Hospice chaplin, officiating. Mr. Howard was born April 30, 1936, in Hallock, Minn., and was a lifelong area resident. He had been employed as a structural steel and iron worker. Carlyle was a U.S. Army veteran and also a 32nd Degree Mason-Coloma Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Mickie Howard, whom he married on Dec. 14, 1979, in St. Joseph. Also surviving is a son, Carlyle Howard Jr.; stepsons, Edward VanBrocklin and Jerry VanBrocklin Jr.; daughters, Cindi Zona and Darlene Powell; stepdaughter, Sherry Zimmerman; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; brothers, Bruce Howard, Donnie Howard and Russell Howard; sisters, Ruby Hickmott, Edith Miller and Joan Ridge; and close friends, Betty (Jim) Mayes, Dillon Mayes and Shirley Finehout.
