Claudine Rae Schneider, 91, formerly of Niles, died Friday at The Maples in Goshen, Ind. She was born Oct. 7, 1918 in Niles to Mayme (Eddington) and Charles Johnson. She married Robert Philip Schneider II Dec. 3, 1938 in Niles. He died March 18, 1981 in Niles. She graduated from Niles High School in 1936 and worked as a switchboard operator and in the admitting department at Pawating Hospital. She then worked in the office at National-Standard and retired from there. She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Tabernacle in Niles. Surviving are a daughter, Penny (David) Smith, Brownsburg, Ind.; three sons, Robert P. Schneider III, San Francisco, Calif., Richard (Sandy) Schneider, San Antonio, Texas and Roger (Kelley) Schneider, Goshen, Ind.; a brother, Jerry J. Johnson, Niles.; a sister, Dorothy Snow, Niles; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were three brothers, Dorrell Johnson, Charles E. Johnson and Lee Johnson, and a sister, Ellen Henderson. Visitation will begin two hours before the noon service Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Apostolic Christian Tabernacle. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association. Hoven Funeral Home in Buchanan is assisting the family with arrangements.
