Darlene Louise Siekman, 78, passed away on Wednesday, June 16th, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was born on May 29, 1932, to the late George and Bernice Hathaway in Arkansas City, KS, and moved to Niles from Missouri. She had been a resident of the area for 62 years. Mrs. Siekman taught for over 26 years before retiring from the Buchanan School System in 1991. She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Niles. She was preceded in death by her former husband, John "Jack" Siekman, and by a daughter, Cynthia Siekman, who died at birth. Surviving are her son, Nick (Mary) Siekman of Niles; daughter, Constance James, also of Niles; a granddaughter, Heather Goins; three great-grandchildren, Isaac, Elijah, and Darius; a brother, Herbert Hathaway; and sisters, Juanita Zook and Joyce Holden. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23rd, in St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Niles, with Rev. Carl Bassett officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, at a later date. Hoven Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
